Testimonies from Tacunan, Davao City

Jacinto “Tata Jake” Sarco, is among the cattle raisers from the barangay of Tacunan in Tugbok District who received technology assistance thru the use of dairy cow feeds for his cattles under the Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) project “Dairy Cow Feeds Processing” in Davao City. This resulted in an increase on his monthly income ranging from Php 8,000 to Php 10,000.

Conceptualized through the Southern Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Research Center (SMIARC) of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) Davao, the CPAR project on dairy cow feeds formulation improved the farmers’ state by providing them with feeds at a lower cost— increasing their income that is indirectly proportional with their cost.

“Alam niyo naman na magastos magpalaki ng baka. Halos lahat ng investment mo eh sa pagkain lang napupunta. Napakalaking tulong ng CPAR sa aming barangay sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng feeds na mabibili sa mas mababang halaga,” he said.

CPAR is one of the DA-BAR's banner programs that aims to empower farming and fishing communities through information-based decision-making. Utilizing the community-based approach, CPAR is geared toward verifying the technical and economic feasibility of mature technologies in specific locations and at the farmers’ level prior to widespread adoption.
