The bureau, through its Applied Communications Division, has two in-house publications, BAR Chronicle and BAR Digest. The BAR Chronicle is a monthly newsletter that features the activities of the different units and divisions of the Bureau and provides up-to-date local and international R&D news. The BAR Digest, on the other hand, is a quarterly journal that highlights regular R&D news and is circulated to different R&D networks.

BAR Chronicle

This is the bureau’s official monthly newsletter. It provides regular updates on BAR’s activities as the national coordinator for agriculture and fisheries R&D and news concerning the NaRDSAF-member institutions. It includes feature articles on the latest technologies/researches funded by BAR or other R&D institutions that have direct and significant impact to the farmers, fisherfolk, and concerned groups.

BAR Digest

Formerly known as BAR Today, this quarterly publication of the Bureau has transformed from just an 8-page, tabloid-size print-out to a new 24-page, magazine-size publication. This newly-packaged Digest contains feature articles on the latest technologies, updates and breakthroughs in agriculture and fisheries R&D. The articles featured here are based on recent research and studies by scientists/researchers from SCUs, DA-staff bureaus and attached agencies and other R&D institutions. Researches are either BAR or non-BAR funded.

R&D Highlights

This is a compilation of abstracts of award-winning agriculture and fisheries R&D researches generated by NaRDSAF-member institutions. This is published yearly and released during the third quarter in time for the National Research Symposium, which is annually facilitated and organized by BAR.

Annual Reports

 This highlights the accomplishments of the Bureau for the year allowing transparency and advocacy in the whole R&D community.

NRS Proceedings

This is an annually-produced publication of BAR featuring highlights of activities during the National Research Symposium (NRS).

The NRS is an annual event coordinated by the Bureau wherein top scientists and researchers from various state colleges and universities and premier research institutions gather together to present the most promising researches and technologies developed and generated in the year. It also coincides with the celebration of the National R&D Week, which is observed every first week of October as stated in Proclamation No. 382 series of 2000.

The NRS 2007 entries centered on the theme: "Agriculture and Fisheries R&D Toward Agribusiness Development and Agro-industrialization". To read or download each files:

This publication features the Bureau's profile in a gist. It contains its vision, mission, mandate, R&D goals, R&D thrusts, and the management’s 8-point R&D strategy.

Technology Brochures

To effectively facilitate technology awareness and information dissemination, BAR publishes some of the recent technologies in a format that is easy to understand and would provide the clients easy access to information. Currently, the Bureau has published 10 technology brochures.

CPAR Operational Manual

This is a 28-page booklet containing the operationalization of the Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR). Specifically it contains: Overview, Goals and Objectives, Guidelines, Process Flow of CPAR, and Management of CPAR Projects. CPAR is designed and implemented nationwide through RIARCs with the active participation of the farmers in the community in coordination with scientists, researchers, extensionists, and other experts in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.

CRGM Manual

This is manual serves as a facilitating tool and a guide for project proponents as well as evaluators of R&D projects. It consists of three sections: a brief overview of BAR; discussion on the national RDE agenda and program for agriculture and fisheries; and RDE grant system implementing guidelines. Through this publication, BAR hopes to strengthen the system of coordination and monitoring and evaluation of research projects to avoid duplication and waste of resources.

Manual on Fresh & Processed Vegetables Certification

This manual is a component of the project conducted by the Philippine Department of the Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) in collaboration with the United Nations- Centre for the Alleviation of Poverty through Secondary Crops' Development in Asia and the Pacific (UN-CAPSA). Users of this resource material are given a brief orientation and guided on the rationale, legal basis, procedures on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and organic agriculture certification, requirements, issues, as well as policy, responsibility, product certification, and programs in the Philippines.
