Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the inauguration of the Smart Greenhouse and the Controlled Environment Indoor Cultivation System (ICS) for urban farming and the soft-launching of the Rice Seed Information System (RSIS) during the 92nd anniversary of DA-Bureau of Plant Industry on 14 March 2022 in Malate, Manila.
In line with the department’s goal to promote urban agriculture geared towards achieving food availability and security, the inaugurated facilities were supported by the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) under the project titled, Surviving and Rebooting Agriculture in the City as Urban Farming.
The launched Rice Seed Information System (RSIS), in collaboration with DA-Philippine Rice Research Institute and DA-BPI, aimed to provide innovative and real-time access to information through mobile and web applications for seed producers, farmers, DA-Regional Field Offices, and local government units.
DA-BAR, represented led by Knowledge Management and Information Systems Division head Salvacion Ritual and technical staff, graced the event.
