Harvesting and Processing of BAR-funded Red Tilapia in Ilocos

A total of 800 kilos of red tilapia were harvested by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Field Office (BFAR-RFO) Ilocos Region from the 1st trial in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte on 26 June 2020 in line with the goal of ensuring food availability, security, and sustainability amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the said community.

Upon being harvested from the 1st trial, the red tilapia were then processed and demonstrated to the women’s group of Brgy. San Agustin by the post-harvest personnel that was led by Dr. Rosario Segundina Gaerlan, BFAR-RFO Ilocos Region OIC-regional director. This upscaling of the grow-out technology is a product of the project “Performance Evaluation of Red Tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus x Oreochromis niloticus) in Marine and Freshwater Cages in Ilocos Region” which was funded by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) in 2019. ###
