Advancing research and innovation in Phl agri-fisheries underscored in 2023 GRC

“[T]he DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) has always given priority to effective communication as a key factor to ensuring the success of research projects and programs we support”, underscored DA-BAR director Junel B. Soriano in his presentation during the 2023 Global Research Council (GRC) Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting. Said meeting was held on 19 October 2023 at Sheraton Manila Hotel, Pasay City.

With the Philippines, particularly the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), as the host for this year’s meeting, DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. emphasized, “this regional meeting holds significance as it provides a platform for collaboration with research funding agencies from across the Asia-Pacific region. We aim to share practices with our regional partners as we pave the way for a future where science, technology, and innovation drive social, economic, and environmental sustainability. ”

Identified as one of the resource persons for this meeting, DA-BAR director Soriano discussed to the council the importance of open science in providing accessible research findings and technologies for their integration and use. Similarly, he referenced the bureau's ongoing research for development (R4D) initiatives in response to global issues, specifically within the agri-fisheries sector.

The GRC holds its annual gathering, bringing together research funding institutions worldwide to address shared concerns, exchange valuable insights, foster the dissemination of knowledge, and facilitate global cooperation in research. (### Geline Nicole A. Morillo)
