DA, SUC seal partnership for 24 new ACEF R4D projects

To officially signify partnership on research for development (R4D) project implementation, the Department of Agriculture and 20 state universities and colleges inked the memorandum of agreement for the 24 new R4D projects to be supported under the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund R4D Component Program on 14 November 2023 at Diliman, Quezon City.

“Consistent to its goals, the DA, through the ACEF R&D Program, shall persist on prioritizing projects that shall empower farming and fishing communities with innovative and cost-effective technologies, and necessary technological and marketing support towards enterprise development,” underscored Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban who represented the DA in the event.

The 24 new projects, composed of 17 R4D facilities upgrading projects and 7 support to technology commercialization projects, will be implemented by the SUC with farmers and fisherfolk cooperatives and associations as partners and beneficiaries of the agri-fishery technology assistance and support.

DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) director Junel B. Soriano underscored that the bureau, as the lead research coordinating agency of the department, continuously strengthens its implementation of the ACEF R4D to ensure coordination and maximum utility of all agricultural research. 

Soriano furthered on the bureau’s efforts on intensifying and strengthening partnership with local government units and SUC in bringing research-bred technologies and technical support to farming and fishing communities all over the country.

“Increasing the productivity and competitiveness of farmers and fisherfolk through the services and technologies derived from various agri-fisheries research for development activities of SUC entails a strategic and collaborative approach aimed at driving innovation and sustainable development in the agri-fisheries sector,” he emphasized.

Gracing the ceremony were  DA Undersecretary for Administration and ACEF Program Management Committee vice-chairperson Jane C. Bacayo, DA-Agricultural Credit Policy Council deputy executive director and ACEF-PMC member Maria Cristina Lopez, project leaders, ACEF-PMC representatives, and DA-BAR key officials and staff.

Since 2018, the bureau has supported a total of 108 ACEF projects in partnership with 42 SUC bringing enhanced productivity and competitiveness to Filipino farmers and fisherfolk. (### Angelo N. Padura)
