24 ACEF R4D proposals approved for funding

Twenty-four proposals submitted by various State Universities and Colleges (SUC) were approved for funding under the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF)  research and development (R&D) component during the ACEF Executive Committee Meeting on 15 September 2023 at DA Apacible Hall, Quezon City.

DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), through Program Development Division head Raymond Patrick L. Cabrera, presented the proposals that qualified after the screening and evaluation process and thus, recommended for funding and implementation.

Highlighted in the presentation are the research for development and extension technology-related services to be provided by the 17 R4D facilities upgrading projects. Discussed as well are the technologies to be supported for commercialization through the  7 projects on technology commercialization. Cabrera also underscored the intended partners and farmers and fisherfolk cooperatives and associations beneficiaries of each project. The projects are from SUC all over the country–13 from Luzon, 5 from Visayas, and 6 from Mindanao.

DA-BAR serves as the lead agency tasked to coordinate and manage the ACEF R&D component. It aims to increase productivity and competitiveness of farmers and fisherfolk through the services and technologies derived from R&D activities of the SUC. From 2018-2022, the component has funded 105 projects, of which 51 are in support to technology commercialization and 54 on research facilities upgrading. (### Maria Elena M. Garces and Mara Shyn M.
