DA-BAR sits in at the Development Partners’ Forum

In response to its goal to foster stronger partnerships and cooperation, the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), represented by its director Dr. Junel B. Soriano, joined the recently conducted Development Partners’ Forum for the Agriculture and Fisheries Sector on 14 July 2023 in Pasig, Metro Manila.

“The vitality of international support for the nation’s food security has never been more needed than now. We are in a period of great flux in international affairs. There are signs that the world may be entering a new phase in international relationships after the pandemic,” underscored Sr. Undersecretary Panganiban.

Spearheaded by the DA Project Development Service, in collaboration with the International Affairs Division, the forum aims to notify development partners and other institutions involved in Official Development Assistance (ODA) services about the Department's present focus areas, priorities, projects, and programs. It likewise intends to widen the Department’s network of opportunities through forging partnerships with development partners as well as exploring possible areas of investment.

In line with the takeaways from the forum, Dir. Soriano stressed that “there are strategies and activities that we [DA-BAR] need to enhance and improve [in line with the Philippine Development Plan]. Dapat po, lahat ng projects natin ay aligned. We must be part of the solution–including our partners–doon sa mga problema at issues that the PH government–specifically DA, needs to address.”

The forum, attended by various partners–international organizations, bilateral and multilateral development partners, ODA’s oversight agencies as well as DA executive officials, regional field offices, bureaus, and attached agencies–served as a venue to learn and share knowledge on the existing and emerging challenges being faced by the sector, to seek and exchange opportunities for possible collaborations, among others.
