BAR chief leads inauguration of ACEF-funded food-processing facility in CLSU

DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) director Dr. Junel B. Soriano graced the inauguration of Central Luzon State University's (CLSU) upgraded food processing research and development (R&D) facility on 30 June 2023.

"By dedicating resources and expertise to R4D in food processing, you are paving the way for groundbreaking advancements that can address critical challenges facing our food industry," affirmed Dir. Soriano in his message.

The recently upgraded structure houses a variety of food processing equipment, which include a smokehouse, freeze dryer, automated meat slicer machine, and cabinet dryer. With these equipment available, the facility is expected to contribute to various research for development (R4D) activities such as product development, food innovation, and value-adding. It will also aid in enhancing the food manufacturing industry through training and other related services needed by interested clients.

"R4D in food processing requires strong collaboration amongst stakeholders of various disciplines. To this, I encourage you to collaborate with leading experts, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to harness collective knowledge and accelerate progress”, urged Dir. Soriano.


Funed under the bureau's Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF), the upgraded food processing R&D facility is targeted to provide assistance to micro, small, and medium farming & fishing enterprises in the region. 

The inauguration was also graced by Dr. Arthur D. Dayrit, DA-Central Luzon regional technical director for Research, Regulatory, and Integrated Laboratories, and CLSU vice presidents, namely, Dr. Armando N. Espino Jr., for Research  and Extension; Dr. Ariel G. Mactal, for Business Affairs; Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, for Administration.
