DA-BAR rolls Program in Focus, RFDG program reviewed

DA-BAR director Dr. Junel B. Soriano highlighted the importance of continually improving the processes and strategies employed by DA-BAR from grants provision, monitoring and evaluation, and technology transfer during the launching of the bureau’s Program in Focus (PIF) on 13 July 2023 via Google Meet.

An initiative of the Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Linkaging Division (PMELD), its chief  Anthony B. Obligado noted further that “PIF is an intervention…developed in order to increase the dissemination of information and results feedback of monitoring and evaluation activities.”

As its opener, PIF focused on the Research Facilities Development Grant program. Engr. Bernadette P. Galve and Engr. Niña Mae G. Talaro presented the level of investment as well as types of facilities and support, number of operational and non-operational facilities, and the total number of completed and ongoing projects funded by DA-BAR and DA-ACEF.

Several completed projects funded through BAR-RFDG were highlighted during the presentation. These include the establishment of a facility that will mass produce biological control agents and a technology commercialization R&D center that shall help in promoting products and technologies developed in the MIMAROPA region.

Meanwhile, completed projects funded through DA-ACEF were also highlighted. These include the upgraded crop processing facility of Quirino State University, tissue culture laboratory of Mindanao State University, and mushroom production facility of Laguna State Polytechnic University.

“Our goal should not end with simply upgrading the facilities. Increasing and improving farmers' and fisherfolks' competitiveness, capabilities, production capacity, product quality, and services should be the main purpose of the RFDG program,” Engr. Talaro said.

DA-BAR through its RFDG program supports partner state universities and colleges, and regional field offices of DA through establishing and upgrading research for development facilities and equipment to boost the capabilities of researchers and partner farmer and fisherfolk-associations.
