Ilocos Norte researchers presents 7 subprograms for Rainfed Agri-Fishery R4DE

To improve the lives of the region’s farmers and fisherfolk by making their livelihood more profitable through modern technologies, Ilocos Norte researchers presented seven full blown subprograms with respective project proposals under the Rainfed Agri-Fishery Research for Development and Extension (R4DE) Program for Ilocos Norte on 30-31 August 2022.

The proposed subprograms were vetted and deliberated before a panel of reactors composed of officers and technical advisers from DA-BAR, Mariano Marcos State University, Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and DA-Ilocos region, for final inputs.

These seven subprograms for possible funding are: Sustaining High Yields in Rainfed Areas in Ilocos Norte through Smarter Agriculture; Harnessing Fishery Resources in Ilocos Norte for Food Security; Smarter Production Systems for Revitalized Livestock and Poultry Industries in Ilocos Norte; Mainstreaming Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Productivity of Rainfed Areas in Ilocos Norte; Development of Tools and Support Systems for Smarter Agri-Fishery Industry in Ilocos Norte; Bioenergy Program/Development of Renewable Energy Technologies for Agri-Fishery Industry of Ilocos Norte; and Strengthening the Agri-Fishery Extension for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in Ilocos Norte.

DA-BAR OIC-director Dr. Sailila Abdula and assistant director for Programs Joel H. Lales both expressed their full support to the programs and its projects. They emphasized the need for the active participation and support from the private sector for the success of the program.

“We, at DA-BAR, actively participated in all these activities because we believe in your advocacy to improve the livelihood in Ilocos Norte by making farming and fishing most profitable despite the challenges of rainfed agriculture… at the end of the day ang importante ay ang impact nitong mga programa sa buhay ng ating mga maliliit na magsasaka at mangingisda” said director Abdula.

Further, assistant director Lales underscored more on the execution of the programs.

“Apart from these workshops and evaluation, ang pinakahihintay ng lahat ay yung implementasyon…and I would like to congratulate everyone because without all of your minds and efforts we cannot possibly achieve this particular state of the program,” assistant director Lales emphasized.
