DA-Ilocos, DA-BAR ink partnership in boosting farmer’s productivity and income through YL:SCALE UP program

To boost farmer’s productivity and income, DA-Ilocos Region and DA-BAR inked partnership during  the ceremonial launching of the Yamang Lupa: Sustainable Community-Based Action R4DE for Livelihood Enhancement, Upliftment, and Prosperity (YL:SCALE UP) program in the region on 5 May 2022 in San Fernando, La Union.

“We will concentrate all our efforts and interventions to improve productivity in certain agricultural areas,” said DA-Ilocos OIC-regional technical director for research and regulations Florentino A. Adame in his welcome remarks.

Anchored on the DA's goal of Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita, the program aims to establish innovative and sustainable agriculture through the enhanced Yamang Lupa Program approaches and strategies resulting in increased farmer’s productivity and income.

The program is expected to cover thousands of hectares of rainfed areas in the region by the end of its implementation in 2024. Activities such as soil sample analysis, capacity building, profiling of areas, and use of micronutrients and balanced fertilization in farming will be conducted.

“We are happy to be part of this program. We will see to it that the methodology and implementing phase of this program will be followed,” said DA-Ilocos OIC regional executive director Dr. Nestor D. Domenden.

DA-BAR assistant director for programs Joell H. Lales emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and accountability of partner institutions and agencies in the successful implementation of the program.

In March, the YL: SCALE UP Program was first launched in Zamboanga del Sur in collaboration with the DA-Zamboanga Peninsula. (### Angelo N. Padura)
