2017 National Biotech Week Celebration

The Department of Agriculture (DA) hosted the 2017 National Biotechnology Week with the theme: “Bioteknolohiya Para sa Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran: Lamang ang Masa at Magsasaka sa Limang “K” ng Bioteknolohiya on 20-24 November 2017 at the Fisher Mall Expo Hall, Quezon City. This weeklong celebration highlighted the beneficial application of biotechnology in food and agriculture, health, environment and industry through technology exhibits, trade fair, seminars and forums for teachers, students, farmers and consumers.

The Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), through its Applied Communication Division, participated in the exhibit featuring various R&D biotechnology project results on the potential of indigenous plants as natural colorant, endemic orchids for medicinal properties, potential of banana peduncle through value-adding and other biotechnology R&D program providing options for food production and food security.

Other government agencies and organizations that participated in the event were the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Health, Department of Environmental and Natural Resources, International Rice Research Institute, Commission on Higher Education, Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Los Banos, and UP Diliman-National Institute Molecular Biotechnology and Biology.###

The celebration of the 13th National Biotechnology Week was held at the Fisher Mall Expo Hall in Quezon City.
