5th Tilapia Congress

Bureau of Fisheries of Aquatic Resources - Regional Field Office 3 (BFAR-RFO 3)

 

Pampanga, hailed as the “tilapia capital of the Philippines,” hosted the 5th Tilapia Congress and Product Exhibits spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries of Aquatic Resources - Regional Field Office 3 (BFAR-RFO 3) on 12-13 October 2017. The Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), through its Applied Communication Division (ACD), participated in the Congress as one of the exhibitors.

With the theme “Levelling up the Philippine Tilapia Value Chain to Global Competitiveness,” the event gathered stakeholders of the Philippine Tilapia Industry to discuss the enhancement of production, postharvest and marketing of Philippine Tilapia for sustainable, profitable and globally competitive industry.

One of the highlights of the event was a talk show about Tilapia Tales of Success featuring inspiring stories of Daerrys Tilapia Ice Cream developed by the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and supported by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) through the research project, “Technology Enhancement and Commercialization of Tilapia Ice Cream.”

During the event, BAR participated in the exhibit showcasing various research results on fisheries and aquaculture including genetically improved Nile tilapia strains, ayungin, tikod-amo, abalone, kapis and seaweeds. ###
