2017 Agrilink Opening Ceremonies

5 October 2017
World Trade Center, Pasay, Manila

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the opening ceremonies of the 2017 Agrilink Foodlink Aqualink celebration during the afternoon of 5 October 2017 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

He was met by Senator Cynthia Villar, Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion, Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, and 2017 Agrilink Chairperson Candelario Miculob.

In the President’s speech, he emphasized the importance of the agriculture sector as one of the pillars of the country’s economy. He said that, “one of the biggest budgetary allocations [of this government] is agriculture.”

This year, the Agrilink has put the Davao region in the spotlight, considered as the country’s fruit basket with its potentials to augment foreign earnings from export activities. It has chosen the theme, “Improved Varieties and Postharvest Facilities: Essential to Profitability,” believing that adopting improved crop varieties alongside postharvest facilities will contribute to increasing the productivity and income of farmers.

Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) Director Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar was present during the opening ceremonies representing the bureau as one of the major co-sponsor of this year’s agrilink. All the major sponsors for the event had a photo opportunity with the President immediately after his keynote address. ###
