Nearly a thousand individuals, comprising of researchers, scientists, academicians, members from the national and local government units, private sector entities, students, and farmers, attended the 2nd National Adlay Congress and Product Exhibits and Farmers’ Field Days spearheaded by the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City on 26-29 September 2017.

With the theme, “Bringing Technologies of Adlay and other Agri-Commodities to Farmers and Stakeholders through Intensive Technology Transfer and Commercialization for Food Secure and Self-Reliant Communities,” the event aimed to demonstrate research technologies that were studied, practically used, and applied at the farmers’ field.

The Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), as it pioneered and supported various R&D projects on adlay from the production to commercialization, attended the event led by its assistant director, Dr. Teodoro S. Solsoloy.

To massively promote adlay as staple food crop alongside rice and corn, various adlay products were showcased by the different adlay-producing regions from DA-Regional Field Offices 2, 3, 5, 4A, 4B, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. To date, adlay products have already been developed and widely marketed including GOURmix, adlay snack foods such as champorado, cookies, brownies, ice cream cones, polvoron, crackers, mamon, coffee, and beauty soaps. ###
