2017 NTF Day 1: Soybean Cooking Contest

The Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), held the second leg of the “Soybean Cooking Contest for Luzon” during the opening day of the “13th Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition” on 8 August 2017.

It was participated in by four groups of students from Benguet State University (BSU), Isabela State University (ISU), Southern Luzon State University-Judge Guillermo Eleazar (SLSU-JGE), and Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) showcasing their culinary skills and competencies in creating their own soybean signature dishes.

Serving as the judges were: Chef Jam Melchor, owner of Yes Plate Manila; Mr. Ralph Rivera, proprietor of Soya Bar Food Chain; and Ms. Thelma Estera, CLSU professor.

The first place was bagged by BSU for their dish, “Rolled Chicken Fillet with Etag-Soybean in Honey Mustard Soybean Tidbits Sauce”. The second place went to “Soydinera Espesyal” prepared by SLSU-JGE while the third place was awarded to “Soya Pastel with Soya Milk Sauce” prepared by ISU.

This event is part of the Department of Agriculture’s continuing effort, through BAR, to promote the health benefits of soybean in the country by creating soybean recipes that are nutritious, delicious and affordable. ###
