The meeting was chaired by Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) Director Dr. Nicomedes P. South Cotabato Provincial Governor Daisy Avancena-Fuentes and Ifugao Provincial Governor Pedro Mayam-o attended the event together with the heads and representatives of PSC member organizations including Philippine Rice Research Institute, Bureau of Plant Industry, Agricultural Training Institute, DTI-Export Marketing Bureau, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Food and Agriculture Organization Philippines to discuss the approval of the project workplan and budget and to update the members on project progress.

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the DA-BAR as the lead coordinating agency in the implementation of the project.

Rice Plus aims to conserve globally important crops like rice, mungbean, taro, yam, banana, abaca and others, in traditional agro-ecosystems of the Philippines. Among its components include mainstreaming the agrobiodiversity conservation into policy and legal frameworks, enhancing and expanding dynamic conservation practices for agrobiodiversity in three pilot communities in Hungduan and Hingyon, Ifugao and Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, and disseminating the documented good practices to other areas. ###
