BAR-PCAARRD Complementation Meeting on R&D Initiatives

 

 

 

 

A complementation meeting between the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) and Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) was held on 12 April 2018 in Los Baños, Laguna.

The meeting was set to discuss on-going initiatives on the biotechnology database jointly developed by the Department of Agriculture-Biotech Program and PCAARRD; convergence initiatives on R&D program packaging/formulation, monitoring and technology transfer between PCAARRD and DA-BAR; as well as complementation of R&D initiatives on garlic, among others.

Attending the meeting were BAR key officials, namely: Mr. Joell Lales, head of BAR-Program Development Division (PDD), Ms. Julia A. Lapitan, head of BAR-Applied Communication Division, and Ms. Cynthia Remedios de Guia, assistant head of BAR-PDD. Also present during the meeting were BAR Focal Persons, Mr. Ian Jomari Panaga (PDD), Mr. Alvin Fontanil (PDD), Mr. Raymond Patrick Cabrera (PDD), Mr. Juan Nikolas Paller (Program Monitoring and Evaluation Division), and Ms. Jillian Timple (Technology Commercialization Division).

Gracing and presiding the activity was the Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, acting executive director of PCAARRD. He was joined in by selected PCAARRD officials and staff: Dir. Edwin Villar, acting deputy director of PCAARRD; Dir. Jocelyn Eusebio, director of the Crops Research Division; and Ms. Leilani Pelegrina, supervising science research specialist from the Crops Research Division, Ms. Lilian G. Bondoc, Officer-In-Charge, Policy Coordination and Monitoring Division (PCMD), Ms. Abigail May O. Retuta, Science Research Specialist II, Crops Research Division, and Ms. Sharie Al-Faiha Abustan, Science Research Specialist II.

Highlights of the meeting included coming up with implementing strategies to have a better complementation in the R&D efforts of BAR and PCAARRD and to avoid duplication of researches. These strategies include the harmonization of the R&D agenda of both agencies based from commodity roadmaps, identification of research projects, as well as its implementers, to be funded by either BAR or PCAARRD, and sharing of information between agencies. ###
