2nd Quarter Research Management Meeting


To provide updates and ensure the directions and smooth operations of the agri-fishery research and development (R&D) in the regions, the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) held its 2nd Quarter Research Management Meeting on 17 May 2018 at the Department of Agriculture-Cagayan Valley Research Center (DA-CVRC) in Ilagan, Isabela.

This quarter’s meeting drew the largest number of participants so far, having gathered more than a hundred attendees from different DA-Regional Field Offices (RFOs) consisting of regional technical directors, research managers, and staff; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional field offices consisting of assistant regional directors, research division chiefs and staff; and representatives from the DA staff bureaus and attached agencies.

Among the agenda of the meeting include: 1) strengthening the Regional Research, Development, and Extension Network (RRDEN) plan of activities; 2) establishing the RRDEN office in all regions; 3) updating the conduct of the 2018 Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition; 4) briefing on the Global Innovation Policy Accelerator Programme; and 5) providing the status of the Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) mentorship program.

Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos of the BFAR-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) also presented the updates and guidelines on the Scientific Career System (SCS) to orient the participants on the various aspects of the system including advancement based on qualifications, merit, and scientific productivity. SCS is a system of recruitment, career progression, recognition and reward of scientists in the public service, as a means of developing a pool of highly qualified and productive scientific personnel.

Likewise, DA-RFO 2 Regional Technical Director Rose Mary Aquino shared the region’s product development framework, being the region’s success formula in its agripreneurship advocacy.

Parts of the activity objective were the study visits at the different R&D facilities of DA-RFO 2 including the Cagayan Valley Integrated Agricultural Laboratory (CVIAL), the first integrated, state-of-the-art, one-stop-shop diagnostic facility in the country, along with other research stations in Tuguegarao, Solana, and Isabela. The group also participated in the First Makan Festival initiated by DA-CVRC, wherein they were also toured around the center’s DOT-accredited agro-ecotourism site. ###
