The DA-BAR Agri-fisheries Technology Business Incubation (TBI) Program focuses on empowering and strengthening the capacities of research for development-based incubators so they can extend the necessary support, guidance, and mentorship to incubatees, who seek to establish agri-fishery technology-based enterprises. Through the TBIs, incubatees shall be provided with technical assistance, physical resources, business management services, and access to available mature technologies during the pre-, actual, and post-incubation process.
Prior to the creation of a TBI program within the R4D institution, a feasibility study must be conducted to assess the viability of its creation and operation. The study should generate recommendations as to the readiness of the institution to operate a TBI program, the types of services it can offer, the additional support and resources needed to its operations, and the operational procedure/manual for the program.
During this stage, various activities will be conducted by the R4D Institution to strengthen its incubator function such as upgrading of facilities and equipment to provide business incubation services, capability building and mentorship training for incubators, and establishing linkages and partnerships with institutions. Incubators are expected to promote their TBI program and start their recruitment process.
Under this component, the agency’s TBI program is fully operational, providing various agribusiness support services to incubatees. Continuous commitment to support operation of the TBI program will be based on their accomplishments. The RDI must be able to present an exit plan with timelines towards becoming self-sustaining.
